The Dining Table Writers’ Group was formed in 2003 at the World Bank Family Network in Washington DC by Trish Macintosh, an Australian author who has since moved away as have some others. New members have joined and meet around each others’ dining tables where Patchwork was conceived.

THE DINING TABLE WRITERS' GROUP [6 Images]
Everyone has a story to tell. For some of us, the need to tell that story is greater than it is for others. Thus began the Dining Table Writers’ Group at the World Bank Family Network in Washington, D.C. in January, 2003. Among us were town planners, teachers, psychologists, counselors, journalists and Ph.D.s. Members came from across the globe – India, Ethiopia, Palestine, Scotland, Australia, Spain, Sweden, Sri Lanka and France. I began to wonder if I was qualified enough to lead this auspicious gathering.
Regardless of profession or nationality, we each had a common aim and that was to produce good work, be it a short story, memoir, or novel.
What we strove for was constructive criticism from all members of the group and this we had in abundance. It never failed to amaze me that none of us ever felt we couldn’t subject ourselves to that criticism, take it on board and return the following week with an amended draft.
Even though some of us have moved on to other countries, the friendships we made over the Dining Table remain steadfast and for this I am ever indebted to my fellow writers.
It is always the aspirations of a teacher to inspire and to pass on some of what she has learned. After reading Patchwork I know that I was successful.
To you, the writers, great work, guys, I’m so proud of you all.
To you, the readers, sit back and enjoy…
